Speaking Engagements

For nearly 20 years, Joshua Brickman has stood in front of the people who build security products, the labs that evaluate them, and the schemes that regulate them, and explained how the three are meant to fit together. Twenty sessions, from 2007 to today.

What Josh speaks about

The EU Cyber Resilience Act

What the CRA actually requires of ICT product developers, and how to build a compliance roadmap that survives contact with an engineering schedule.

Common Criteria in the Cloud

Josh chairs the Common Criteria in the Cloud technical working group and is primary author of its guidance. He has given the community update at the International Common Criteria Conference in 2023 and 2024, and at Common Criteria Day in 2022.

FIPS 140 and cryptographic module validation

Keeping a validation alive through product updates, and where FIPS and Common Criteria help each other instead of duplicating work. Sessions and panels at the International Cryptographic Module Conference in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

Protection Profiles and technical communities

How a group of competitors builds a shared Protection Profile and then keeps it maintained. Josh co-chaired the Enterprise Security Management community — Microsoft, IBM, EMC/RSA, Oracle and CA Technologies — and reported on it at ICCC in 2007, 2009 and 2012.

Secure development and supply chain trust

Where product security actually breaks down, and what a customer can reasonably ask a vendor to prove. Includes RSA Conference 2013 with Mary Ann Davidson, and the Open Group Trusted Technology Forum at ICCC 2011.

Digital accessibility in the enterprise

Building an accessibility process that outlives the person who started it. Presented at the CSUN Conference on Technology and Persons with Disabilities in 2012 with Mary Utt of The Paciello Group, and at the Boston Accessibility Unconference in 2011.
